Traditional Baccalaureate ProgramThe faculty of St. Luke’s School of Nursing at Moravian College developed an innovative curriculum leading to a Bachleor's Degree (B.S.) with the major in Nursing. The program is designed to address the changing role of the nurse within health care during the 21st century. Development of this curriculum was based on the belief that a strong background in the liberal arts is necessary to prepare professional nurses to manage current influences in health care, as well as provide care to diverse populations. There are many opportunities for RN's with baccalaureate degrees with a major in nursing. Each nursing student must meet the college requirements for Learning in Common (LinC). Students also need a strong foundation in selected sciences and social sciences in order to understand the rationale for nursing care that is later developed in the clinical nursing courses. It is important for nursing students to be introduced to nursing science early in their college program. Students enroll in their first nursing course in the first semester, freshman year. As first semester sophomores, students begin clinical nursing practice courses, focusing on the various roles of nurses including practitioner, educator, counselor, coordinator, and advocate. Students not only experience care of individuals, but also focus on care of the entire family and community. The program overall includes 1020 hours in patient care settings, with additional 120 hours of simulation and laboratory practice. The final clinical course prepares the student for transition into the professional nurse role through an intensive clinical experience within the acute-care hospital setting. A sample program of study for students in the nursing major can be found here: Program of Study For more information about application to the baccalaureate program with a major in nursing, select the Admissions tab at the Moravian College website. Program)The R.N.-B.S. program has been developed to deliver the highest quality baccalaureate nursing education to registered nurses in a flexible format. All of the courses provided through Moravian College are designed so that they are relevant to the learning needs of adult students and the nursing courses will complement prior coursework and experience. The Moravian College R.N.-B.S. program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Prospective students may transfer in up to 16 of 32 required course units completed at two-year institutions. Additional upper-division courses completed at accredited four-year colleges and universities may also be transferable to complete degree requirements. There are no clinical clock hour requirements for RN’s in the program; however, some courses require completion of precepted project hours. Program in NursingOffered in partnership with St. Luke’s Hospital and Health Network and Moravian College’s Comenius Center, courses prepare today’s nurses for essential leadership roles in nursing administration, education and practice environments. Graduate coursework is designed to foster interdisciplinary exchange and learning with Nursing, Education and Business Administration Faculty. The M.S. Program in Nursing has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to begin enrollment into its graduate tracks as of Fall 2009. The need and demand for graduate-prepared nurses to influence health and healing outcomes for people in our community is greater than ever before. As the health care environment has become more complex, the role of the professional nurse has grown to meet contemporary complex challenges. Research studies suggest that the more highly educated the nurse, the better the patient health care outcomes. Students are currently invited to make application to any of the graduate programs. *Note: Applicants are no longer required to submit Graduate Record Exam or Miller Analogies test results as an admission requirement. The program requirements for the Clinical Nurse Leader, Nurse Administrators, and Nurse Educator curricula can be found at the following links: Program Requirements: Clinical Nurse Leader MS Program for RN's with Non-Nursing Baccalaureate Degrees Registered Nurses who have obtained a baccalaureate in a discipline other than nursing are eligible to apply to the MS Program.
