Biography:
Mary Ellen Lehman is an arts educator with 32 years of experience in the Allentown School District. Teaching at all levels from kindergarten through high school, including special education, she implemented a standards-based, interdisciplinary arts curriculum. Under her leadership, arts residencies were developed and aligned to state and local standards. She also developed and led a partnership with the Lehigh Valley Arts Council, bringing in professional artists. Before joining Moravian, she mentored Moravian’s art student teachers in her district. A well-known figure in the art education community, she has presented material at many state conferences and area school districts.
Artist Statement:
“At Moravian, I teach in a challenging educational leadership position with the opportunity for collaborative hands-on teaching. I have brought my thirty-two years of multicultural, arts-integrated teaching experience to a place where I work collaboratively with other educators, helping them to integrate the arts into all academic areas. I wish to use the arts to drive student learning and build an appreciation of others.”
