Portfolio Requirements for First-Year Admissions

Artwork:

Required for all students planning to pursue the graphic design, studio art, or art education tracks. Not required for art history track.

Portfolio should include at least 10 examples that demonstrate your background in art. For drawings and paintings, include examples done from observation, rather than from copying photographs. Examples from other media, including graphic design, ceramics, and photography, are welcome.

Format:
CD or color laser print-outs.

Cover Page:
Please complete this cover page and submit with your portfolio and art essay.

Essay:
Required for all prospective art students, including art history majors. A short essay on the topic “Why I Want to Study Art”. This should be submitted as a hard copy, typed and double-spaced.

Length: 1 to 2 pages, maximum 2 pages.

Please note: This essay can also be used as your writing sample for your application for admission. If you choose to do so, please submit two copies, one with your portfolio and one to the Office of Admission.
