Ireland Trip:
August 8th-17th 2005 The Moravian Women's Basketball team, family, and
friends gather at JFK Airport for our flight to Shannon, Ireland. Our first stop takes us to the breathtaking views of the
Cliffs of Moher on the west coast of Ireland. On our way to Killarney, we stopped at the charming
village of Adare. The gardens were beautiful and the thatched roofed homes
were quaint. The team gathers for a photo before our first game at the
University of Limerick. The first tip-off against the club team from
Limerick. The team huddles during halftime of our game at the
University of Limerick. Several of us enjoyed a horse drawn carriage ride
through the city and parks of Killarney. The team poses for a picture on a footbridge on the
grounds of Glendolough, the site of a 6th century monastic village. The crowded streets of Dublin. Fans were making
their way to the stadium for the semi-finals of the National Hurling
Championships. The coaching staff gathers prior to tip-off of the
Killester game. After a hard fought game against Killester, the two
teams gather for a photo.
Our journey took us to the Kylemore Abbey, a boarding
school run by the Benedictine Nuns in County Galway. On our last day, some of us braved the cold waters of
the Atlantic in order to say, "We swam in Ireland." Look closely and you will see the moon rising over
Galway Bay. A beautiful parting shot as we spend our last night in Ireland. |
