Seniors and non-returning students network accounts - 2009

What will happen to my network account when I graduate? What if I'm not a graduating senior but decide not to return to Moravian College? This page will explain what will happen and give suggestions about how to handle any electronic information you may have accumulated during your time at Moravian.

What / Where ?

As students, you have several 'housekeeping' tasks that must be performed before leaving Moravian. You need to:

      • Delete the anti-virus software which was provided to you on the ResNet CD or via antivirus.moravian.edu.,
      • Archive the files in your personal directories on the X: drive,
      • Archive your web pages,
      • Archive your e-mail messages and e-mail contacts.

When ?

Your network account will be deactivated on July 1st, 2009. When your account is deactivated, the following will occur:

      • Your e-mail account will be deleted. Any messages, contacts, or calendar items still in your mailbox
on July 1st will be gone forever and we cannot get them back.

Your account will be deleted in October 2009. When your account is deleted, the following will occur:

      • Your network account will be deleted and your personal directory on the X: drive will be deleted,
      • Your web pages will be removed,

***NOTE***: If you require access to your account after July 1st, please send a message to netadm@moravian.edu and we will work with you so that you can continue to use your account for a mutually agreed upon period of time.

What you need to do ...

Please perform these tasks BEFORE your account is deactivated on July 1st, 2009:

Your e-mail - THIS IS A MUST READ
You will need to handle your e-mail messages and saved e-mail contacts. You should:

      • Obtain an alternate email address - a non-Moravian email address.

        GREAT IDEA FOR SENIORS!!!

How would you like one e-mail address for contact purposes, even if you change Internet Service Providers?

Then get an alumni e-mail address. This is a permanent forwarding address that can be used in conjunction with any e-mail address. Alumni Relations will be sending an e-mail message very soon telling you how to get an alumni e-mail address.

      • *** Use your new email address (or your alumnus e-mail address) on your resume.***
      • Notify people of your new email address.
      • Document any saved email addresses in your address book.
      • Forward any important email messages to your new e-mail address.

Delete the anti-virus software provided to you on the ResNet CD

If Moravian provided you with a copy of Kaspersky anti-virus software to protect your computer while you are a student, you are licensed by Kaspersky to use the software as long as you are attending Moravian. Once you graduate or leave Moravian, you need to purchase your own copy of anti-virus software. There are many commercial anti-virus software packages to choose from, including but not limited to Kaspersky's Home Edition, McAfee's Home Edition, and Symantec's Norton Anti-virus. You can also try Grisoft's AVG Free Edition.

The packages listed above are suggestions only and are not endorsed by either Moravian College or Moravian Theological Seminary.

Your files in your personal directory on X: drive

      • Copy your files to your personal computer's hard disk - if you reside on campus. (Your best option!)
      • Backup your files to CD or USB thumb drive.
      • Copy your files to your personal computer's hard disk at home - via the Internet. The easiest way to do this is with WS-FTP. CIT has created a PDF that we can e-mail to you if you need assistance with FTP or you can get it here if you are reading this page on-campus.

Your web page(s)

      • Backup your web site to CD or USB thumb drive.
      • Get a web site from an ISP and transfer your site. Let people know your site has moved.

If you have any questions, please send a message to help@moravian.edu or call the Help Desk at 610-625-7929 (x7929 if you are on campus).
