Samantha's Lesson Plan for English Educator-
Jonothan Neelands
1. Course Title: Ed 360
2. Unit: Speech and Drama
3. Objective - to have students come to an agreement during a mock meeting about changing the curriculum in a high school. Through this exercise, students are going to use the information they learned in class, what they are learning in their field observation, and the information from their English educator to defend these issues.
4. Rationale: This is a great exercise that helps with verbal skills, and gives the class the opportunity to get a feeling about faculty meetings. It is a real-life situation assignment.
Procedure:
1. Tell students that we are going to have a faculty meeting to discuss the curriculum in a high school that has not changed the anything for many years.
2. Half the students are going to play the role of an experienced teacher, and the other half are going to play the role of a first year teacher. If students feel comfortable, I would also like some volunteers to play the role of their English educator.
3. The new teachers are going to be asked to defend their right to use the new procedures that they have learned in college. They are going to want to change the whole curriculum.
4. The more experienced teachers are going to be asked to defend their teaching methods. They are going to think that changing everything would be a huge hassle and they do not want to alter a thing.
5. The objective is to come to some kind of agreement.
6. We are going to discuss cooperative learning, new writing techniques, class discussion, and multiple intelligence.
7. I will give the class 15 minutes to prepare what they are going to say.
8. Then we will have the meeting.
5.Evaluation- students will be evaluated on how well they get their point across.
