Dr. Fluck has been Chair of the Education
Department since the fall of 1997. She earned undergraduate
and masters degrees at East Stroudsburg University
(elementary education), and completed her doctorate
at Temple University (mathematics education). She
coordinates the elementary education program, teaches
a course on mathematics in the elementary schools,
supervises student teachers, and conducts a seminar
on curriculum and instruction for elementary student
teachers. In addition she teaches courses in the
Master's of Education program in constructivism and
assessment in the mathematics classroom. She had
seventeen years experience as an elementary and middle
school teacher in Florida, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania
before joining the Moravian faculty. Dr. Fluck has
presented workshops for the National Council of Teachers
of Mathematics on a variety of topics. She serves
as consultant in area school districts and is on
advisory boards for both a local vocational school
and a charter school. Dr. Fluck was the recipient
of a Pennsylvania Department of Education grant for
research on using technology to enhance problem solving,
a federal grant for Preparing Tomorrow Teachers to
Use Technology, and several National Science Foundation
grants for the improvement of mathematics education.
She has conducted many summer workshops through Eisenhower
grants for area teachers in the teaching of mathematics.
