The Best Poem--Honorable Mention

Amy Unger's "Before the Frenzy of Morning"

Before the burned toast and coffee cup rings
clutter the table,
before we hide our eyes behind newspapers
pitched like sails,
before the crusts of last night’s exchange
pile near our plates,
there is just this-warm legs and feet buried beneath
miles of down
while the heater hums and we breathe together
