First Year Seminar Writing Prize

The annual First Year Seminar Writing Prize is awarded to the best academic essays written in a First Year Seminar course.

We are pleased to announce the winners of the 2014 First Year Seminar Writing Prize:

Call for Submissions

We invite first-year students currently enrolled in a First Year Seminar (Linc 101) class to submit original manuscripts for the First Year Seminar Writing Prize. Submissions must be academically focused (no creative writing or personal essays, please) and written for a current FYS course. Winners receive a cash prize, and winning essays are published on the Moravian College English Department Website. The first place essay is awarded $75 and the second place essay receives $25.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Essays must be submitted by Sunday, December 15, 2013.
  • Essay should be typed and double-spaced with numbered pages and an original title. Your name should NOT appear anywhere on the essay itself.
  • Include a cover sheet that contains the following information:
    1. your name
    2. your campus address, phone number, and email address
    3. the essay title
    4. your FYS instructor’s name 

Essays may be submitted electronically (formatted according to the guidelines above) via email to Meg Mikovits. Please send Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) files only.
