Assistant Professor of Graphic Design
The Art Department at Moravian College invites applicants for a tenure-track opening at the assistant professor level beginning Fall Term 2013.
Responsibilities include directing the graphic design track, serving as adviser to graphic design students, supervising internships, and advising the student-run graphic design business, StudioSouth. Teaching areas include beginning to advanced studio courses in graphic design, typography, publication design, and graphic design history. Courses are taught in Macintosh platform labs using Adobe software; labs have large-format printers, scanners and high-resolution digital projectors. Development of inter-disciplinary art projects or courses related to Moravian’s Learning in Common liberal arts curriculum is encouraged. Faculty teach three courses per term and are expected to work actively with students in and out of the classroom, spending a significant amount of time on campus. Service to the greater college community is also expected.
Requirements include a terminal degree in graphic design (M.F.A), demonstrated teaching excellence, a commitment to the liberal arts, and the ability to integrate art practices within social and historical contexts. Applicants should demonstrate a thorough understanding of current design software as well as historic and contemporary design theory. Evidence of ongoing professional and creative activity/research in the graphic design field is required. Interactive/web design, motion graphics, and animation skills are a plus. Active participation in professional organizations is preferred.
