Clarinet - specific audition requirements

Scales

  • All major and chromatic scales, slurred and tongued. (E, F, F#, G, and their chromatic scales = 3 octaves; all others and their chromatic scales = 2 octaves)

Sightreading

  • Expect something at the high school level.

Prepared Pieces

  1. One slow/lyrical etude from the Cyrille Rose "32 Etudes."
  2. One outer movement of a major clarinet work (good examples found in the list below)

    • Gerald Finzi - Five Bagatelles
    • Paul Hindemith - Sonata
    • W.A. Mozart - Concerto, K. 622
    • Henri Rabaud - Solo de Concours
    • Camille Saint-Saens - Sonate

    • Carl Stamitz - Concerto No. 3
    • Giuseppe Tartini - Concertino
    • Carl Maria von Weber - Concertino
    • Carl Maria von Weber - Concerto No. 1
