The Music Department invites all prospective undergraduate,
transfer, and teacher certification students to interview at the
college. Inquiries may begin at the Music Department, the Admissions
Department or the Office of Continuing and Graduate Studies (CGS.)
Although the College Admissions Department and the Office of CGS
determine admission to the College, the Music Department determines
whether the student is admitted as a music major via an audition.
Each music major will need to demonstrate improvement
in a performance medium while at Moravian College. Therefore,
the prospective music student must audition in a major concentration
(vocal or instrumental) to be studied while a music major. Composition
majors must also maintain a major performance area. The prospective
music student wishing to study secondary instruments or voice
does not audition in any secondary area. Minors and non-majors
do not audition. The Music Department does not ask for CDs or
DVDs. We prefer an in-person audition.
Except as indicated in the specific requirements
listed below, the audition consists of a performance of two pieces
in contrasting styles and an individually-administered assessment
of aural skills, musicianship, keyboard skills, and music theory.
Except as indicated in the specific requirements listed below,
the choice of two audition pieces is left to the prospective student.
With advance notice, the Music Department can provide an accompanist,
for the prospective vocalist who is unable to bring one, or a
small cassette/CD playback system if a taped accompaniment is
used.
To be eligible for the Music Department Hugo Music-Major
Merit Scholarships students entering in fall 2009 must audition
on or before one of the following dates: January 16 and
17, 2009. There is an additional audition date after
the Hugo decisions on March 21, 2009. (Early
decision students should audition on November 7, 2008).
To schedule an audition, contact Erika Mondok in
Admissions (610-861-1325) or the Audition Coordinator in the Music

Department Information Form and mail it to the music department
