- Sing a major and a minor scale using scat syllables.
- Expect to read from a big band chart or "lead sheet."
- Expect to improvise over two choruses of blues (medium tempo)
in the key of the applicant's choosing.
- Expect to improvise over one chorus of a 32-bar jazz standard
(up, medium, or slow) in the key of the applicant's choosing.
- Selections should be jazz standards: one medium/up tempo and
the other a ballad (good examples found in - but not limited
to - the list below)
- All the Things You Are, Body and Soul, Autumn Leaves,
Satin Doll, There Will Never Be Another You, Just Friends,
I'll Remember April, etc.
NOTE: An accompanist will be provided by the college
if the repertoire is received 2 weeks before the audition. If
the applicant brings a prerecorded (CD) accompaniment, a boombox
will be provided.
