The MCMI Young Musicians’ Camp (YMC@M) is open to students entering grades 6-12 in the fall of 2013. The camp is open to students of all levels of band and orchestra instruments that already have SOME experience on their instrument (please—no beginners). Students will find challenging and rewarding opportunities for musical growth.
- To instruct students in the performance practice of traditional band and orchestral music.
- To provide students the opportunity to hone their musicianship skills through small and large ensemble performance.
- To provide classes (theory, ear-training, etc.) that support the student’s development as a performer.
- Major ensemble (band for winds and orchestra for strings)
- Ear-training
- Theory/History
- Composing
- Sectionals/chamber ensembles
- Master classes
This week-long camp begins on Monday morning at 9:00 am with an organizational meeting that transitions quickly into the first full day of classes. The typical day runs from 9:00-4:30 with an hour long break for lunch at noon. The students will play in a final, capstone performance on Friday July 26th at 7:00 in Foy Concert Hall, admission is free.
Lunch is provided and the cost is covered by the tuition. Meals are provided in Clewell Dining Hall just a few feet away from Foy Concert Hall.
Fees
The fee for the week-long camp is $350.00 per student, which includes instruction, participation in ensembles and lunch.

Because our standards for achievement are high, we accept highly motivated students who will enjoy the classes as well as the cultural activities. It is, therefore, important to know that failure to comply with regulations will be grounds for immediate dismissal from the program. Parents and/or guardians will be contacted as soon as any unsatisfactory behavior is recognized. No refunds will be issued if you are dismissed for behavioral issues.
