From: Rev. David E. Bennett, Chair, Presidential Search Committee

I am pleased to provide you with an update on the search for our next President. The search committee has been diligent in evaluating the materials of those interested in succeeding President Thomforde. This past weekend, the search committee completed two days of in-person interviews with a subset of highly qualified candidates. The process continues to move forward and we are now prepared to invite a set of candidates to campus December 3-5 and December 12-13.

To: The Moravian College Community
From: Rev. David E. Bennett, Chair, Presidential Search Committee

The search for our next President continues and is currently still on schedule to identify final candidates by mid December of this year.  I can now report that the Presidential Search Committee has completed an initial review of application materials and is moving ahead with an exceptionally strong slate of candidates for further engagement.  It is also important to note that the Presidential search remains open to new candidates even as the process moves forward.

As was mentioned in previous updates, it is the intention of the Presidential Search Committee to provide the campus community with the opportunity to engage final candidates in early- to-mid-December.

Further updates will be offered as we advance in the Presidential search process.

On behalf of the Presidential Search Committee, I am pleased to be able to report that our work toward selecting a new President for MORAVIAN COLLEGE is advancing on schedule.  Following a first orientation meeting, the Presidential Search Committee has been able to work in partnership with Greenwood/Asher Associates to establish a thorough profile of our institution and the position of president.  This profile, along with an advertisement for the position, has been prominently posted and recruitment is now in the early stages.  As you know, the Presidential Search Committee also solicited the input and perspective of the entire campus community through face-to-face listening sessions, as well as through an online leadership survey, which was also made available to alums.

To: The Moravian College Community
From: Lyn Trodahl Chynoweth, Board Chair

My last communication to you was to acknowledge Dr. Thomforde’s impending retirement at the conclusion of this academic year. The Board, of course, now has a priority to hire the best next president for Moravian College. To do that, we are inviting members of the Moravian community to serve on a broadly representative search committee whose members will be revealed when we have gained agreement from all. I continue to be grateful for the Rev. David Bennett’s agreement to chair the search committee.

To:  The Moravian Community
From: Lyn Trodahl Chynoweth, Board Chair

By now, most of you have read Dr. Thomforde’s announcement letter.  It is with regret that the board accepts his desire to retire from MORAVIAN (and the field of higher education) at the end of the coming academic year.

President Thomforde has served MORAVIAN well.  His commitment to our mission and purpose has been steadfast.  Our ability to maintain a fiscally sound institution, while providing increasing opportunities and facilities for our students, outpaces many similar institutions.  Chris was able to foresee the need to adapt to ever changing needs of students—undergraduate, graduate, Seminary—and effectively lead our institution through troubled times.  Additionally, Chris has effectively managed significant transitions on the senior leadership team.  Truly, we have much for which to be grateful; and Chris’s leadership is high among those things.
