Section 6 Evaluation Criteria > Specialized Directories > Organization searching > Review

To identify the purpose of a site, look for an "about this site" link on the first page or, in the case of an organization page, a mission statement.

Informational - Such sites are intended to educate.

Advocacy -
Such sites are created to argue a point of view or promote a cause.

Commercial - These sites exist to sell products or services.

News - These sites are intended to provide current local, regional, national and international developments.

Personal - These sites are intended to express the personal tastes and opinions of their creators.

Entertainment - These sites are intended to provide diversion by means of humor, games, music, etc.

Warning: Some sites have more than one purpose, blending advocacy and informational or informational and commercial (sites which dispense information about drugs and also sell them, for example). Be especially wary when you evaluate sites with more than one purpose.
