SNOW POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR CAMPUS PARKING LOTS

Snow-removal procedures are established to provide all areas of the Main Street Campus and the Priscilla Payne Hurd Campus with accessible walkways, roads, and lots within a reasonable time after winter weather conditions subside.

When there is a declared snow emergency, lots will be cleared during non-class hours if possible.

All notifications to move cars from lots will come from Campus Safety, using e-mail, announcements in the HUB, and the RA/RD system. Once the notice goes out, owners must move their cars within a specified period of time. When possible, a 24-hour notification will be given. Vehicles left in the lot after the designated time will be towed.

Students who bring vehicles to campus, whether they park in College lots or on city streets, are expected to equip them with proper tools such as snow or all-weather tires, shovels, traction material, and other necessities for winter driving.

EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIO SYSTEM

Dear Members of the Moravian College and Moravian Theological Seminary Community:

Moravian has a long history of continuous improvement with regard to institutional safety and emergency preparedness.  In recent years, we have enhanced our facilities by adding sprinklers and card access to most of our residence hall facilities, with work in remaining traditional halls scheduled to be completed next summer.  We have strengthened our programs by developing more than 30 emergency response protocols addressing a wide range of situations and by partnering with the City of Bethlehem in a federally-funded critical incident protocol program facilitated by representatives from Michigan State University.  Additionally, we have bolstered our 24/7 Campus Safety Office operation by relocating it to more suitable facilities; by providing increased training for staff, including participation in regular tabletop exercises; and by arranging for a formal outside review of our Campus Safety program, which was completed in February 2007.

This summer, we have focused on improving our notification and communication systems.  It is important to have a mechanism to alert members of our college community in the event of an emergency and, subsequently, to provide information and instructions through various mediums:  siren/public address speaker, cell phones, e-mails, and the College website.  While there can never be a guarantee of safety, we believe that moving in this direction places the College in a better position from which to deal with the unexpected threats of today’s world.

Two sirens, one situated on the Main Street Campus and one on the Hurd Campus will initiate the notification system.  Our plan calls for the notification sirens to be activated by Campus Safety in the event of an emergency to alert people to check their cell phones.  The communication system, contracted through a company called OMNILERT, LLC using their product called e2Campus.  You can find out more information about e2Campus by visiting their website at http://www.e2campus.com/

In the event of an emergency, this new system will enable us to send text messages to the cell phones of registered members of the campus community with information about what is happening and/or what precautions should be taken.  Students and employees may register two cell phone numbers and two e-mail addresses.

In order to take full advantage of these enhancements to our campus preparedness, we request that every student, faculty member, administrator, and staff member who has a cell phone register that cell phone number in accordance with instructions posted on Moravian’s intranet at http://intranet.moravian.edu/e2campus/index.asp

In order to register, you must be on the College's network so that you can access the College's Intranet website and the e2Campus registration link.  We ask that you register your phone as soon as possible, preferably by August 24, 2007.

In the coming weeks, you will be provided with more information in regard to e2campus to include the system testing schedule.  We anticipate that testing will occur twice annually: once in September and once in January.  Questions about the contents of this letter are best directed to Sean Tallarico, Director of Campus Safety, at 610-861-1421 or mesmt01@moravian.edu.

Thank you in advance for doing your part toward increased preparedness by registering your cell phone number.

Sincerely,

Christopher M. Thomforde

President
