Main Hall on Hurd Campus
The Hurd Campus is staffed by a Resident Director who lives in on the first floor of Main Hall, a Resident Assistant on each of the three residential floors in Main Hall and a Resident Assistant in Clewell Hall. Students living on the Hurd Campus can eat in Clewell dining Hall where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served Monday-Friday. The College provides regularly scheduled bus service between the Hurd and Main Campuses seven days per week from 7:30am until after midnight. As part of the Campus Safety network, the Hurd Campus emergency and fire safety systems report directly to MC Campus Police.
Originally opened in 1854 as a residence for single women, Main Hall is at the center of the Hurd Campus. Today, Main Hall is home to 57 women in various traditional room configurations. Given the 19th century architecture, no two rooms are identical and most are quite spacious with high ceilings and large windows that offer lots of natural light. Individual rooms sleep two or three students and are completely furnished. Every room is assigned a discreet phone line that provides local access and students can obtain a pass-code for long-distance calls (students must provide a phone for the room). The College supplies basic cable TV service to each student room. All students have direct access to the college computer network for data storage and internet connection (there is a data port for each student in every room). Specific information regarding the campus network, computing resources and recommended system requirements can be found on the MC CIT Website. The President’s Lounge The Basement The Basement of Main Hall is home to “Coffee House”, a staple of the many activities on the Hurd Campus. On Wednesday evenings, students gather for coffee and tea, conversation, and an occasional acoustic or spoken-word performance. Also in the basement of Main Hall is a new 24-hour study and computer lab that offers access to the campus network and internet via college personal computers. The lab is a quiet, comfortable place for study, research and writing. There is also a small fitness room and laundry facilities in the basement of Main Hall.
