My
name is Laura Applegate and I am a
post-baccalaureate student, pursuing my teacher certification in
Elementary
Education at Moravian College, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. I am a
Bethlehem
native and graduated from Freedom High School in 2006. I attended
Franklin and
Marshall College, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where I graduated in
2010, receiving
my Bachelor’s of Arts in Psyc
hology, with a
minor in English
Literature.
While
attending
Franklin
and
Marshall, I was
actively involved with my sorority, Alpha Phi, in which I held the
position of
Director of Member Education from
2007-2009. I am currently the Advisor
of
Programming and Development
for the Lehigh
University chapter of Alpha Phi,
assisting the chapter as needed with new member education, as well as
chapter
events, and implementing standing rules and procedures.
I
was also a member of the Franklin and
Marshall Dance Company, and have had the privilege of being a part of a
reconstruction of Martha Graham’s famous dance, Steps in
the Street. During my four years at F&M, I worked in
the Admissions Office as a student worker and learned a lot about the
process
of college admissions. I was also a member of the College Entertainment
Committee, which was a group responsible for planning campus-wide
activities
and events.
Outside of school-related activities, I
enjoy
spending time with my family and f
riends. Every summer I love to go to
the
beach. I am a huge Penn State football fan and love
to go to games as
often as
I am able to. Dancing has been my passion since I was five years old. I
have
had the opportunity to study ballet, jazz, modern, and lyrical dance
for 18
years and hope to share my love of dance with my students. I am very
creative
and artistic and I love doing arts and crafts projects and hope to
incorporate
this love into my classroom. I have always known that I wanted to work
with
children since I was young, but hoped to become a school psychologist
one day.
After much thought I decided this career path was not for me, and
decided to go
back to school to become an elementary school teacher.
