Educational Experience
My first real field experience was located at Hanover Elementary in the Bethlehem Area School District. I was placed in a second-grade classroom full of diverse and interesting opportunities. Due to the large size of the class, I was given the chance to practice class management skills. The classroom was ethnically and socioeconomically diverse, exposing me to a variety of educational challenges that I am sure to encounter later in my teaching career.
America Reads is a community service program in which I still participate. This program has afforded me the bulk of my teaching experience, as I have been tutoring Bethlehem's youth at Salvation Army and the southside branch of the public library for two semesters now. The range of needs present in the body of students I tutor is astounding, and the diversity I have faced in this program will surely prove a valuable tool in my career as an educator.
