MY HOBBIES AND INTERESTS
I have played sports throughout my life. I played volleyball, basketball and soccer in middle and high school. I also ran track and cross country. Soccer was always my favorite sport. I was on the Olympic Development team, and played in college. In college I also ran track in both winter and spring.

I also greatly enjoy music. I played flute when I was younger, and it has kept my interest still today. I love going to shows on Broadway, and make it a point to go at least twice a year.

A sense of community is especially important to me. I went to a small school with a great sense of community, and that has inspired me to be continually active in the larger community. In 2006 I went to New Orleans to rebuild houses after Hurricane Katrina. It was one of the most rewarding experiences for me. I also have volunteered with TOPSoccer for the past five years. TOPSoccer is a program that helps mentally and physically disabled students learn to play soccer. I have met some great friends and people, and will continue to be involved with that organization.

I believe one of the key factors in building a sense of community is celebrating diversity. I highly value other cultures, languages and customs. I have traveled to Austria, Hungry, Germany and the Netherlands. I have also traveled to Puerto Rico, where my dad lived for five years. In school I studied Spanish and Japanese. Not only did I learn the language, but I also learn a great deal about their cultures. Although I don't remember too much Japanese, I am still able to communicate in Spanish. Someday soon I hope to visit Spain where I could immerse myself in the culture and language.
