The New Approach is a volunteer group that I have been a member of for almost 15 years and is a huge part of my life. The New Approach was started by Mrs. Jean Pinto 40 years ago. It started out as a group of kids singing and performing until Tim Caracio, a member, was diagnosed with cancer. He was Jean’s next door neighbor. At only 18 years old, his sudden and unexpected death left the group of kids wondering what they could do to make a difference so no one else would ever have to go through Tim’s condition again. In 40 years, the group has raised more than $400,000 dollars for Cancer Research and treatment through the Tim Caracio Memorial Cancer Fund. Funded by ticket sales from our summer shows, we have been able to help make great strides in cancer research and have aided in the funding of a new cancer center at Pocono Medical Center. Today, all monies received go to the Dale & Francis Hughes Cancer Center at the Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.

	I attended East Stroudsburg High School South, which is located in East Stroudsburg Pennsylvania. During high school I was actively involved in sports, music, and theatre. I was also a member of National Honors Society and did numerous hours of community services through a nonprofit group called the New Approach. I was a 4 year member of the Women Varsity Tennis Team. Throughout those 4 years, I had many great experiences and accomplishments. I competed in the District 11 singles tournament 3 out of my 4 years of high school and my senior year was seeded 8th going into the tournament. I was also team captain my junior and senior year and was the teams scholar athlete. As far as music and theatre, I was involved in every musical group my high school offered. I was a member of Choraliers, Concert Band, Concert Choir, and the Spring Musical Production. Music was a large part of my life and still continues to be today.

	After graduating from East Stroudsburg High School South with Honors, I decided that Moravian College was the place for me. Moravian offered exceptional academic programs in which I felt I would flourish. I am currently a Psychology and Elementary Education Major with the hopes of one day becoming a guidance councilor. At Moravian, I am a member of the Woman's Tennis team, a member of KDP (the education honor society), a tutor for underprivileged children and I am also the Education Director for the Sigma Sigma Sigma national sorority.
