My name is Allison Irving
and I am a post-baccalaureate student at Moravian College. I am
a native to the area. I was born and raised in Easton,
Pennsylvania. I am a 2008 graduate of Easton Area High
School. After high school, I attended Lafayette College
where I graduated in three years with a Bachelor's in
Anthropology and Sociology. At Moravian, I will be done
with my elementary (K-6) certification in December of 2012.
During my time at Lafayette, I had wonderful
experiences working with children. I went back to my high school
Alma Mater to tutor 9th grade students who were at risk of
failing. It was during that time that I was taking my
first education class ever: Foundations of Education. As a
requirement for the course, I had to visit m

any
different schools. I visited a Moravian Academy 7th grade
class, a Palmer Elementary kindergarten class, and many high
school classes at Easton Area High School. It was around
this time that my passion for teaching started to come
out. As a member of Delta Delta Delta at Lafayette, I was
given the wonderful opportunity to go to St. Jude Children's
Research Hospital. There I got to see where the money my
sorority had raised went to, but most importantly, I got to meet
some of the patients at St. Jude. I realized how precious
life is and how wonderful children are. Going on the trip
to St. Jude cemented my desire to become a teacher.

I decided before I graduated Lafayette, that I
wanted to go to Moravian College for their excellent teaching
program. I took summer and interim classes in order to
finish Lafayette a year early and start my teaching experiences
at Moravian as soon as possible. While at Moravian, I have
had wonderful experiences working with children. This past
Spring Break I had the opportunity to travel to Jamaica and help
build an extension onto a school. I also got to deliver
school supplies to various schools in the Whitehouse area of
Jamaica.

In my spare time, I love to bake. I have tons of recipe
books and decorating tools. I also enjoy reading.
Recently, I've been trying to read all of the books on the
Newbery Award list. So far, Bud not Buddy has been my
favorite. Another of my favorite thing to do is 5K or more
walks (I'm working up to the runs). I've done the Light
the Night for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for three years,
the St. Jude Give Thanks Walk this year, the Juvenile Diabetes
Research Fund walk this year, and Relay for Life for the
American Cancer Society last year. Finally, I enjoy shopping and
spending times with friends and family.
