In the fall of 2011 I completed my
first field experience at Broughal Middle School. I was assigned
to Mr. Miller’s 6th grade ESL and
Language Arts classes. During my time at Broughal, I
worked closely with students and observed their
learning habits. It was a great experience to work
with younger students who are learning English as a
second language. The wide variety of diverse
learners helped me better understand that each
student is unique and their own individual. |

In the fall and winter of 2011-2012 I did tutoring at Lincoln Elementary School in the Bethlehem School District. I was in a program run through America Reads where I would go to this school a few days during the week whether it was during the day or after school and help students work on reading. After they would read, I would help them with any homework they had. This was additional experience and great for me because it gave me more one on one tutoring help for future occurrences. | ![]() |

In
the fall and winter of 2011-2012 I did tutoring at
Calypso Elementary School in the Bethlehem School
District. This was also a program run through
America Reads and generally the same concept as what
I did at Lincoln. I went to this school only after
school and it was basically a homework club. The
students would work on homework for one hour and
then we would have a 15-minute activity period. It
continued to help me with my tutoring skills. |

In the spring of 2012 I did my second field experience at Liberty High School. This time I was finally in a place where I could see myself in a few years. I was in Ms. Smith’s 10th grade history class. I sat in two of the same periods where the subject was AP U.S. History. I helped Ms. Smith prepare lessons and was very engaged in group work and discussions. I learned a lot from this experience and hope to continue the strategies I learned into my high school classroom one day. | ![]() |

In
the fall of 2012 I did my most recent field
experience at East Hills Middle School. I have moved
to the 2nd stage of tutoring. I am
tutoring in Ms. Amato’s learning support class. I
sit in with learners with disabilities during Math,
Science, and Social Studies periods. I have led
multiple classroom lessons during my time at East
Hills. I am finally getting the opportunity to put
all the strategies I have been learning over the
past three years into the classroom as the lead
teacher. |
