Adding a video clip is similar to adding an image to a website. Due to a constraint on the part of Claris HomePage, the process is somewhat complicated.Consideration must also be given when deciding to include a video clip as to how much time it will take to download the segment in any given browser. While this is of lesser concern when viewing the internet over a network, it is a major consideration when viewing the internet via telephone lines. As an example: a 15 second video when downloaded through a 34 k baud modem, may take up to 6 minutes for the image to load completely.
When producing a viseo clip, Claris HomePage requires it to be in Apple's Quicktime format (.MOV). Most clips are in mpg format, but ClarisHomepage will not read a file withe the .mpg extension.
To get around this:
- Produce a video clip in mpg format ( ie. sport.mpg)
- Change the extension on the clip to .mov (ie. sport.mov)
- Insert the clip into Claris HomePage by selecting the Quicktime Movie option under the INSERT Menu.
- Locate the movie clip and insert it.
- Upload and consolidate your files moving the video clip into a folder called media. This will be created during the consolidation process.
- Once the video clip is on the server, rename the file to its original name using the .mpg extension.
- Finally go to edit source code, and change the name of the video clip in the actual HTML document.

- Save the file with the edited source code.
You will notice that while in Claris Homepage, the first frame of the video will not be visable and a broken icon will appear. This is because it can no longer find that renamed file!)
- When you preview the webpage over the internet the picture should appear as a still picture. Double clicking on the picture will start the clip!!
Editing Movie Parameters
Double chicking on the movie, or icon, allows you to open the Movie Editor.
To change the size of the clip select the desired value. You can define the size in pixels or a percent.
To make the clip into a continuous loop use the pull down menu to change the No to Yes. If you want to auto reverse at the end of the clip select auto reverse.
If you want the clip to auto play mark the appropriate box. Not selecting this option requires the viewer to double click on the clip to make it play.
The plug-in page will automatically appear if the browser you are using will not support playing the clip. This will link to the appropriate site to obtain that capacity. The default is Apple's Quicktime website. (This can be changed to be any appropriate link.)
