Bow hold |
The specific way the violinist holds their bow in their right hand. |
Home teacher |
The parent is the home teacher in the Suzuki method of violin instruction. As home teacher, the parent must attend all lessons, practice with the child and learn to play the violin at a remedial level. In addition they must establish an environment for learning and practice daily with their child. |
| Mother tongue method | The mother tongue method is what Shinichi Suzuki called his method of violin instruction. It was called this because he based it on the way children learned to speak their native tongue by listening to and imitating adults. |
| Play position | The particular way the violinist holds their instrument when playing. |
| Rest position | The position a violinist holds his violin and bow when not playing. |
| Violin instructor | The trained professional that instructs the home teacher and the child how to learn to play the violin. |
