Mt. Graham telescope

The binocular telescope is located in the large structure in the distance on the summit of Mt. Graham. This site is located near Safford, AZ.

Inside the structure. For scale, note the person left of center. Note also a portion of one of the two mirrors is seen at the top center of the image.

Shown is the structure of the alt-az mechanism that moves the telescope. For scale, notice the person on the left side of the image.

Shown is one of the two mirrors of this binocular telescope.

In 2018 many members of the Superstition Mountain Astronomical League, myself included, and my wife, toured the mirror lab at the University of Arizona, where these mirrors were made and where other similar mirrors are in the process of being made. This is a photogaph of one 27.6-foot diameter mirror being made and some of the production facilities there.

I highly recommend this tour. It is a fascinating process.
