CD Spectrograph Project

An effort that was started in about 2016 and successfully completed in May 2019

I have left this on my website for historical interest because it states the challenge I was trying to address. For the result, see my CD and DVD Solar Spectrograph page.

I have installed a piece of a CD on a rotatable spindle at the juncture of a plastic pipe that has a "Y" shape.

The back view shows the rotation mechanism.

Can a CD or DVD be used to obtain Fraunhofer absorption lines in the Sun's spectrum?

Indeed, it can. In May of 2019, I was successful with using both the CD and DVD to image the Fraunhofer lines in the solar spectrum. For the result, see my CD and DVD Solar Spectrograph page.
