Local Native American Sites

Cliff Dwellings in Tonto National Monument

These cliff dwellings are located in Tonto National Monument, about a 50 mile drive from Gold Canyon where we live. They were occupied during the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries. The nearest town is Globe, AZ.

Petroglyphs at the end of Hieroglyphic Trail (below).

Hieroglyphic Trail, which is probably the closest trail to our home in Gold Canyon (only about 3 miles away), terminates in the Superstition Mountains at these Indian petroglyphs.

Besh-Ba_Gowah masonry pueblo (below).

Located about a mile from the town of Globe (which is about a 50 mile drive from Gold Canyon), the site was occupied by a Native American population between 1225 AD and 1400 AD. These are remnamts of multi-storied masonry room block clusters. These structures were plastered on the interiors and some of the exteriors. Originally, there were about 200 rooms.

There are more Native American sites, but these are the ones that I have visited and photographed thus far.
