LFL -- Little Free Library

The first (and only) LFL in Gold Canyon

My wife Jane came up with the idea.

Jan Harbaugh was instrumental in moving the project forward.

Local artist Ona Golden contributed the desert theme artwork on the library.

This is is the completed Little Free Library (LFL) which is installed on the grounds of the community swimming pool. The concept of having a LFL was proposed by my wife, Jane. Jan Harbough contributed management skills to foster the project through to completion and generously contributed time and financial support. Once approved by the Home Owner's Association (HOA) board, I constructed the base and painted the unit and base, after which Ona Golden, a local artist, donated her talents to paint scenes on the front and two sides. Ray Trankle, a member of the HOA board, and I installed the library in the picnic area near the community swmming pool. Jane and Jan are the persons who maintain the books for and within the LFL.

The two pictures above show the LFL unit before painting in my garage.

Ray and I dig the base and install the support post. Digging a hole in Gold Canyon is always a challenge because of the many buried cobbles and boulders.

The completed LFL as it appears when filled with books.
