Choosing courses in the first year for an Environmental Science major

Majoring in Environmental Science

In their first semester, all Environmental Science majors should take ENVR110 (Introduction to Environmental Studies) or ENVR112 (Environmental Science). In the spring, take either BIOL112 (General Zoology) or BIOL119 (Introductory Botany). You should also take ECON152 (Principles of Economics) in one of your freshman semesters and MATH107 (Statistics) in the other.

In addition, you should strongly consider taking both semesters of General Chemistry in your first year (CHEM113 in the fall and CHEM114 in the spring). Both semesters of chemistry are required for the major, and CHEM114 is a pre-requisite for Environmental Chemistry (CHEM205), which is itself a required course. If you choose to put off taking General Chemistry until your sophomore year you can still complete the major in four years, but there's no sense delaying your plunge into taking lab science courses.
