Record Grooves

Grooves on a Record

The grooves on a phonographic recording wiggle back and forth so the needle riding in the grooves is moved to recreate the recorded sound.  The light areas on the photograph are the flat upper surfaces of the record and the dark areas are the "V" shaped grooves.  Photographed through a metallurgical microscope onto Plus-X film.
